The American Socialite, and Palm Beach fashion designer Lillian “Lilly” Pulitzer Rousseau died at 81 on Sunday April 7, 2013. You can credit her for making colorful tropical floral prints, and bright Key West fabrics popular among the high elite when it was introduced in the 1950’s.
Lilly Pulitzer resort style wear was very popular and did very good in sales during its peak in the 60’s and 70’s. She also had clientele like Jacqueline Kennedy wearing her designs.
Her collection included dresses, but were later expanded to include swimwear, children’s wear, country club attire, men’s wear, and home collection.
Lilly told the Associated Press in 2009, “I designed collections around whatever struck my fancy … fruits, vegetables, politics or peacocks….it was a total change of life for me, but it made people happy.”
Let us not forget about this popular fashion icon dubbed the “Queen of Prep” who brought fashion to life by bringing colorful revolution during her era.
“Style isn’t just about what you wear, it’s about how you live,” –Pulitzer said in 2004.
